Structure of Present Continuous Tense

Subject + is/am/are + base verb + ing

Subject Helping Verb Verb + ing
I am working
He/She/It is reading
You/We/They are playing

🚫 Negative Sentences:

Subject + is/am/are + not + verb + ing

Interrogative Sentences:

Is/Am/Are + subject + verb + ing?

  • Are you coming to the party? 🎉

When Do We Use the Present Continuous Tense?

  1. Actions happening now:
    – She is talking on the phone.

  2. Actions happening around now (but not at the exact moment):
    – I am reading a great book these days.

  3. Temporary actions:
    – He is staying with his friend this week.

  4. Planned future actions (informal):
    – We are going to the market tomorrow.
